It's my birthday. I'm being reflective. This year has had its fair share of ups and downs. My 38th year of life started on a really fun weekend in Tahoe with my closest friends. After that weekend, I had a couple of hard months. Then in December, I decided to really live again, and met a wonderful man. We had five very spectacularly awesome (at most times) months together and I learned a lot about myself in the process. Now I am learning even more. Here are some of the things that I want to concentrate on for my 39th year of life:
1. Patience is a virtue, and no doors are ever closed if you wish to keep them open.
2. Having a job is lovely, but it's not everything, and we need to keep in perspective what is really important.
3. My family is amazing. They are my rock, my heart, and my soul.
4. Writing is therapeutic and truly should be a daily occurrence.
5. My friends are truly spectacular and have helped me in ways that I can never repay. But I know they don't expect me to.
6. Love doesn't go away just because you don't see someone every day.
7. I want to immerse myself in media, listen to new music all the time, and watch the films that have intrigued me and inspired me.
8. Laughing is thoroughly the best way to spend a day.
9. People are inherently good. Flawed in beautiful and complex ways, but good.
10. Emotional ups and downs are part of life, and this year I want more ups than downs.
11. When you love someone tell them all the time. Tell them more than you think you should.
12. Happiness is a choice. Positivity is also a choice.
13. I am happy with what I have and the choices I have made. I have no regrets.
14. I can't end on 13, so here's my motto for this year: Feel it, be it, do it, love it, see it.
