Seven Psychopaths

Everybody's watched this trailer and thought how cool it looked. Sam Rockwell, Colin Farrell, Tom Waits, Christopher Walken, Woody Harrelson, and a bunch of random kidnapped animals? I mean, come on now, oozing with coolness.

Well, it was an even cooler film. But it's not exactly what you'd think it would be. It's actually a movie within a movie. Hopefully I won't give too much away in this post. Either way, it's worth watching multiple times even if you know a little something about it ahead of time. As a matter of fact, it's a totally ownable film.

It's about Colin Farrell, an alcoholic screenwriter in Hollywood, trying to find a script for a film that at the beginning of the film only has a title, "Seven Psychopaths" and a couple of undeveloped psychopathic characters. We slowly meet the seven psychopaths that will eventually star in the film, and whether they are real or figments of a writer's imagination sometimes isn't very clear.

A few of the psychopaths have very understandable reasons for being psychopaths, as their hate was bred from horrible acts done to them. A few were psychopaths for less obvious reasons, and one was a psychopath merely to get the screenplay written.

Overall, it's one of the coolest films I've ever seen, and will be re-watched many times, if only to see Sam Rockwell's overly exaggerated facial expressions. Seriously, hilarious.
